My Best Weight Loss Advice to Follow
People often ask me to give them my absolute best weight loss advice. They want to know the ONE thing that will turn it all around for them so they can have the body they want, or have the level of fitness they want, or weigh what they did in high school. They are essentially looking for what I call the “fitness scratch off ticket.” The problem is…when it comes to real weight loss advice, there is not ONE thing that is a cure all. You have to combine fitness with nutrition. There is no “magic pill” that will transform you into any shape or size that you want. It doesn’t work that way!! It takes dedication and honest effort both in your exercise program, and your daily nutrition to truly achieve positive results.
Weight Loss Advice: Nutrition
My weight loss advice always focuses on nutrition first. I do it that way for a couple of reasons. I know from experience that it is the hardest piece of the puzzle when it comes to achieving results. I think of it as an iceberg. The tip of the iceberg being your physical activity or exercise. But the base of the iceberg, the much larger part that creates the foundation of your fitness level, is your nutrition. You can have the best exercise programs in the world and work out like an animal, but if you continue to rotate around the drive thru at your local fast food restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, your workouts are going to do nothing for you. Your nutrition has to be a huge part of any routine if you truly want change. Now a lot of times when people ask me for weight loss advice, I can tell that they are not really serious. Especially when the first thing I ask them is “how is your nutrition?” and they give me a furrowed brow like I just swore at them. I have found that in general, people do not think that they have to change their nutrition, when that is the first thing that they need to change.
Weight Loss Advice: Exercise
Now I do not neglect physical exercise when giving weight loss advice. Even though I may refer to it as the “tip of the iceberg,” I still think it is an essential piece to the puzzle. It completes the puzzle actually. You have to have some sort of exercise in order to achieve the results you want. There is no getting around that. The sad part is that there a lot of exercises and equipment out there these days that portray themselves as tools for real transformation, when they are nothing more than gimmicks and toys. Take for example some of the equipment that you see on TV commercials. “You can lose 20 lbs in 14 days using this amazing Shake-o-matic…” Give me a break!!! That stuff is not real. Do not fall for that! A lot of gyms offer low membership fees and their version of “circuit training.” While I do believe in circuit training, I do not believe in using machines, with barely enough resistance, and being done in 20 minutes. That is not going to burn the amount of calories that you really need to burn to achieve the results that you really want to achieve. I do believer that the gym can be a good tool, if you know what you’re doing. If you have a program that you are following and know how to do it. The best weight loss advice I can give when it pertains to exercise is to find something you love to do, that is fun and motivating, that burns the maximum amount of calories, and do it every day. That is one reason I love the Beachbody workout programs. They are fun, challenging, and motivating and they definitely deliver results.
So if you are looking for the best weight loss advice, I say think nutrition first. Make sure you are following a good sensible diet. Supplements and shakes (such as Shakeology) are a great way to achieve results and add to your diet (hence the name supplement), but make sure that your diet is in line with your physical output and your goals. Secondly, find an exercise program that you love and keeps you coming back for more! No more “fitness scratch off tickets”!!!!
