What is an Inner Athlete?

There is an inner athlete in all of us. What is an athlete anyway? An athlete is defined as a person who is trained or skilled in exercises, sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina. That’s great…but it’s not what I think of when I hear the word ‘athlete.’ I think of a competitor. Someone who wants to win at anything and everything they participate in. Someone who refuses to give up once they have a goal in mind, who laughs at adversity, and neglects negativity. I think of a person who gets motivated when others say they can’t do something. A person who loves a challenge, and loves conquering a challenge even more. I think of someone who has goals and dreams and will break through any barriers to get there. When I say we all have an inner athlete, that is what I mean.
Can You Really Have an Inner Athlete In You?
To have that inner athlete you don’t necessarily have to have been involved in sports. Maybe you played sports at a competitive level at one time, but that is not a requirement for the kind of person I am talking about. I am simply talking about having the traits I discussed earlier. Maybe it is buried deep down inside somewhere. Neglected. Lost. But it’s still there. Believe me…it doesn’t leave. I played sports my entire life. Ever since I can remember, I was in some sort of league or camp. It defined who I was at an early age. I loved the competition. However, once my playing days were over, I let my inner athlete go. I neglected it and became what I call one of the “herd.” I followed. I gave in and conformed to the regular lifestyle that everyone around me was living. There was rarely anything to look forward to. Basically, I had let life win. It wasn’t until I realized that, that things changed for me.
Awaken Your Inner Athlete!!!
I decided to change. The inner athletewas awoken and I was ready to take on life again! I found myself when I realized that I didn’t have to be one of the “herd” anymore. I was different and I could change my life. It was in my hands. I know that a lot of people out there are feeling the same way I did and struggling to break free. How did I do it? It wasn’t something that happened overnight. It wasn’t like I had an epiphany and suddenly the next morning, everything was different. But there was one thing I can honestly point to that changed my life forever. It was the day I opened my laptop and ordered P90X. I can remember that day like it was yesterday. Along with conforming to society, I had started let my body go. I was really out of shape, and I was absolutely disgusted with some photos that were taken of me at a family gathering. I knew I had to do something. It was still a struggle to commit to a home based fitness program. I was worried that I wouldn’t stick with it. But that worry…that was the “herd” mentality. I knew I had to do it and I took it as a challenge. After all…there was a money back guarantee so I had nothing to lose! My inner athlete won. I clicked the ‘place your order’ button and I never looked back.
I know how hard that decision was for me. And I know that a lot of people struggle with the same decision. I can visualize you sitting at your computer screen, hovering over your mouse, unsure of whether you want to click the button or not. I was there. I know. Believe me when I tell you to let your inner athlete win. Don’t conform. Don’t give into what so many other people have. I’m here to tell you that you are different. Unleash your inner athlete and don’t look back!
